The National Police Agency will sign a security cooperation agreement with Germany ahead of the World Cup soccer finals in June.

Commissioner General Lee Taek-soon said Monday that the agreement is meant to ensure close cooperation with Germany and protection of nationals there.

The agency will select two police officers fluent in English and German to accompany the national soccer team to Germany, protect nationals there and collect anti-terrorism information.

South Korean officials stationed in other European countries could also go to Germany to back up the mission if necessary.
