Team Develops Android with Human Features

A team at the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology has developed an android that can show emotion and make facial expressions.

The Commerce, Industry and Energy Ministry on Thursday unveiled EveR-1 to some 60 kids ahead of Children's Day Friday.

The android has facial and physical features of the average 20-something Korean woman, and is 160 centimeters tall and 50 kilograms heavy.

The team said EveR-1 is the world's second android after Actroid of Japan.

With silicon skin, the android can mimic several human emotions, make natural eye contact and recognize some 400 Korean words to hold simple conversations.
