Wie Begins Schedule in Korea with Charity Donation

Korean-American golfer Michelle Wie arrived in Korea to an enthusiastic reception on Saturday for her latest brush with male opponents at the SK Telecom Open on May 4th.

“I never imagined this many people would show up to welcome me,” Wie told a news conference at Incheon International Airport. “I'm so glad to be back.”

After the news conference, the Hawaiian-born 16-year-old golfer began her 11-day schedule by donating 300 million won in charity funds to two major hospitals to help children with intractable diseases.

Wie threw out the first pitch at a baseball game between the SK Wyverns and the Doosan Bears on Sunday and is scheduled to hold a joint news conference with K.J. Choi, who grabbed the champion’s trophy at last year’s tournament.
