A center for nanoelement manufacturing has opened in the southern Seoul suburb of Suwon after two years of construction.

The Korea Advanced Nano Fab Center is the first in the nation to manufacture nanoelements focusing on compound semiconductors.

Six institutions including the Science and Technology Ministry and Gyeonggi Province founded the center.

By providing access to nano-related facilities and equipment, the center is expected to help strengthen national competitiveness in nanotechnology through research and development of electrical and optical element technologies.

The center's research and venture section will foster venture firms in the field, with some ten such companies to move to the section in June.
