'Test Reconfirms Stem Cell No.1 Wasn't Cloned'

Seoul National University says an external test has reconfirmed that the stem cell line Number one created by disgraced scientist Hwang Woo-suk was created from parthenogenesis.

The chief of the university's office of research, Roe Jung-hye, announced Tuesday the results of a test completed by the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).

KAIST had conducted the test upon the university's request and reconfirmed that the stem cells had been created not by cloning but by parthenogenesis ... the same finding made by SNU's own investigative panel in January.

At the time, Hwang had raised doubts over the university’s internal probe results.
