National soccer striker Lee Dong-gook will undergo surgery on his right knee Wednesday, thus dropping out of the World Cup in Germany.

Doctors at the German rehabilitation center Sporeg on Thursday said Lee's right knee has 95 percent of its anterior cruciate torn, thus rehabilitation is not an option.

To get surgery at a hospital in Frankfurt, Lee is expected to need a year for his knee to completely recover afterwards.
