Heads of national Olympic committees and members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) agreed on the need to review the Olympic Program for future games at the next meeting in 2007.
Wrapping up the weeklong conference in Seoul Friday, IOC President Jacques Rogge said the philosophy behind the systematic review of the Olympic Program has now been well understood and accepted. He added that there is a clear convergence of views on procedures.
Rogge also said they will fine-tune and present final proposals at the next meeting in preparation for the review in 2009. He said that it has been pleasing to see the sense of unity that came out of the discussions held with the National Olympic Committees and International Federations (IFS) this week in Seoul.
Among the changes to be voted upon during next year's IOC session in Guatemala, Rogge said the committee will change the way sports are voted into and out of the Olympics.
Currently, while only a simple majority is needed to vote off a sport, a two-thirds majority is needed to add a new one to the games. Rogge said in the 2007 session a simple majority vote will be pushed for in both cases.
