U.S. Journal Retracts 2004 Stem Cell Paper

The American science journal Stem Cells has retracted its publication of a 2004 thesis by MizMedi Women's Hospital Chairman Roh Sung-il and his research team.

Editor-in-chief Curt Civin said Monday that the journal made the retraction because the thesis contained a number of number of questionable and possibly fradulent images.

He said the hospital has not honored the journal's request to investigate the allegations further, possibly due to the criminal probe of the fraud scandal.

Stem Cells is the second journal to retract a paper related to Hwang Woo-suk since Science did so last year. Hwang, however, was not a co-author on the MizMedi paper.
