Seoul National University will proceed with patent applications on the stem cell cloning technology of professor Hwang Woo-suk despite his fraud scandal.

A school official said Friday that the university has no authority to revoke the applications of Hwang and the other co-authors of his theses.

Also under consideration is the inclusion of Hwang's name on the co-inventors' list in a patent applied for by American scientist Gerald Schatten, as it contains a squeezing technology that Hwang's team could have developed.
