Slugger Choi Traded to Boston Red Sox

Slugger Choi Hee-seop has joined the Boston Red Sox after the team traded for him from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Web site of Major League Baseball on Saturday announced the trade, over which Choi was quoted as saying he felt shock and a bit sad.

South Korea's first non-pitcher to make the league, Choi made his debut with the Chicago Cubs in 2002. He was dealt to the Florida Marlins in 2004 and to the Dodgers last year.

He is also the fifth South Korean player to play for the Red Sox, following four pitchers including Lee Sang-hoon in 2000 and Kim Byung-hyun in 2004.
