The military will buy eight second-hand maritime aircraft from the United States by 2010.

The Defense Acquisition Program Administration said Wednesday it will increase the number of maritime aircraft to 16 over four years to bolster military capability through better submarine detection.

Operations to improve capability will also include airframe renovation and replacement of parts of core avionic equipment.
