New Material to Raise Solar Cell Efficiency

A team of scientists says it has created a film that can greatly enhance the efficiency of solar fuel cells.

Kim Young-kyoo of Imperial College London, Ree Moon-hor of Pohang Accelerator Laboratory and Ha Chang-sik of Pusan National University on Thursday said they developed the new material by "blending" fullerene and poly (3-hexylthiophene), or P3HT.

The organic composite material can be used to make solar fuel cells and its application is expected on a wide array of products such as flexible portable display devices.

The breakthrough is published in the March issue of Nature Materials, a sister publication of the journal Nature.
