Baseballers Edge Mexico in WBC, 2-1

Slugger Lee Seung-yeop and pitcher Park Chan-ho on Sunday helped the national baseball team edge Mexico, 2-1, in the World Baseball Classic.

In Anaheim, California, Lee's two-run homer in the first inning gave his team a quick lead, and Park pitched a scoreless ninth as South Korea remained a perfect 4-0.

Mexico threatened to tie with a man on third base in the top of the ninth, but Park struck out Geronimo Gil for the final out.

Starting pitcher Seo Jae-weung got the win, allowing only Luis Alfonso Garcia's homer in the third and a single by Vinny Castilla in the fourth over five and a third innings.

Lee is six of 14 from the plate in the four wins and has driven in nine runs.

South Korea will play the United States Monday evening.
