Female figure skater Kim Yun-a has won the nation's first gold medal in an international competition in the sport.

At the World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Slovenia Friday, the 16-year-old received the winning score of 177-point-54 thanks to her outstanding theatrics.

She finished her routine with her famous Bielman spins, a technique involving spinning while grabbing the blade of a skate and raising it above the head.

Japanese rival Mao Asada was supposed to give Kim tough competition for the gold, but made several mistakes in her routine.
