Tokyo has officially joined the race to host the 2016 Summer Olympics.
The city's metropolitan assembly on Wednesday overwhelmingly passed a resolution to bid for the event in a 103-to-18 vote.
Under the resolution, the city will submit an official application on the bid to the Japanese Olympic Committee by the end of April.
In September last year, Fukuoka also passed a resolution to join the race for the Olympics.
