LG Philips LCD has developed the world's largest liquid crystal display panel of 100 inches.

In its Paju factory northeast of Seoul Wednesday, the company held a launching ceremony for its new panel, which tops the previous world record of 82 inches by Samsung Electronics.

Manufactured in LG Philips' seventh-generation production line, the panel measures 2.2 meters by 1.2 meters and uses the standard high-definition aspect ratio of 16 by nine.

The panel is expected to give LCD makers a competitive edge over rival plasma, which leads the global market for big-screen TVs.
