Figure skater Kim Yun-a on Wednesday won the short event at the International Skating Union's world junior championships in Slovenia.

On the tournament's second day, Kim beat last year's champion Mao Asada of Japan.

If she puts in a stellar performance in the free skating event Friday, Kim could become South Korea's first world junior champion in figure skating.
