Most of the population believes the national soccer team will make the second round of the World Cup in Germany.

Gallup Korea said Monday that in a poll of 1,520 people, 93 percent say the team will advance to the knockout round of soccer's biggest tournament. Before the 2002 World Cup, only 72 percent surveyed believed South Korea would advance to the final 16.

In this year's poll, 45 percent said South Korea will make it to the second round, 29 percent to the quarterfinals and 13 percent to the semifinals.

Six percent went as far to predict that the team will win its first World Cup trophy.

On who will win the tournament, Brazil was the favorite with 53 percent of the vote, followed by host Germany with 22 percent.

South Korea Coach Dick Advocaat also had an approval rating of 77 percent.
