The national baseball team on Sunday edged Japan, 3-2, in their final Asian qualifier of the World Baseball Classic.

In the Tokyo Dome, Lee Seung-yeop in the top of the eighth inning hit a two-run homer to give South Korea the lead.

South Korean pitcher Park Chan-ho retired all three batters in the bottom of the ninth for the save.

With a perfect 3-0 record in Group A, the team will travel to California next week to play in the quarterfinals.

The top two teams from groups A and B will go into a single group for a berth in the semifinals.
