The national baseball team on Friday opened the World Baseball Classic with a 2-0 win over Taiwan in the Tokyo Dome.

Hong Sung-heun and Lee Jong-beom drove in two runs and the pitching staff of Seo Jae-weong, Kim Byung-hyun, Koo Dae-sung and Park Chan-ho did the rest.

The team needs to win just one more game to advance to the tournament's final round in the United States.

South Korea will play China Saturday before facing archrival Japan Sunday.
