South Korea finished 7th at the Turin Winter Games that came to a close on Sunday.
The country notched its best performance in a Winter Olympics with six golds, three silvers and two bronzes and exceeded its original target of a top-ten finish with at least three golds.
Earlier on Saturday, in the men's five-thousand-meter short track relay, Ahn Hyun-soo helped the nation win its first international gold medal in the event in 14 years in Olympic record time, and joined female skater Jin Sun-yu as South Korea's first Olympian to win three golds at a single Olympics.
A ceremony featuring a dazzling array of circus acts, parades, fireworks and confetti ended 16 days of competition at the 20th Winter Olympics.
Before declaring the games closed, IOC president Jacques Rogge praised the Turin Olympics calling it "truly magnificent."
Next Winter Olympics will be held in Vancouver, Canada in 2010.
