Togo has appointed Otto Pfister of Germany as its new soccer coach for the World Cup.

Reuters and The Associated Press reported Thursday that the Togolese Football Federation has hired the German after firing Stephen Keshi last week over the team's poor performance in the African Nations' Cup.

Pfister has coached Zaire, Ghana and Saudi Arabia and pro teams in Egypt and Tunisia.

South Korea will open the World Cup against Togo in Group G.
