Golfing prodigy Michelle Wie is surprisingly ranked third in the Women's World Golf Ranking behind leader Annika Sorenstam and Paula Creamer.

The ranking released Tuesday also placed Women's British Open champion Jeong Jang eighth and Han Hee-won ninth.

The Associated Press said Wie this week could take over the number-two spot in the LPGA event Fields Open in Hawaii.

Unlike the rankings for men, pros and amateurs can appear in the women's rankings because players can earn points by competing in events in the LPGA, Europe, South Korea, Japan and Australia.

The women also have a minimum divisor of 15 tournaments over two years, whereas the men's is 40.
