The government has announced that the Korea Multipurpose Satellite II, or KOMPSAT-II, will be launched into orbit in July.

The Ministry of Science and Technology said it decided on the date after finalizing tests on the satellite’s data-saving mechanism and other components.

Experts and officials from the ministries of science and technology, commerce, and information will gather at the Korea Aerospace Research Institute in Daejon on Tuesday to review preparations for the launch.

The satellite will blast into orbit from a Russian launch site in Plesetsk, located some two-hundred kilometers northeast of Moscow.

KOMPSAT-II will be equipped with a highly sophisticated camera system to observe farming conditions and relay various industrial information to the earth.

More than two-hundred-50 billion won was injected into the project.

The original launch date was last November, but South Korea decided on a postponement after the Russian government requested a comprehensive inspection of the satellite's components.
