Short-track speed skaters Ahn Hyun-soo and Lee Ho-suk have advanced to the quarterfinals of the men's 1,000 meters at the Torino Winter Olympics.

Both skaters finished first in their respective qualifying heats.

Ahn earlier won the gold medal in the men's 1,500 meters.

Apolo Anton Ohno from the United States also qualified for the quarterfinals, where he will face Ahn.

Meanwhile, Jin Seon-yu and Kang Yoon-mi failed to medal in the women’s 500-meter short track.
