Samsung Electronics will provide terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) handsets to France, which is planning to launch trial DMB services for the first time in Europe.

South Korea’s largest consumer electronics manufacturer announced Wednesday that it had agreed to provide DMB phones to the leading French mobile telecommunications firm, Bouygues Telecomm, and to the digital audio broadcast network provider VDL.

Currently, France has formed a consortium with mobile telecommunication firms, broadcasting companies and mobile phone manufacturers to commercialize terrestrial DMB services for the first time in Europe.

Last month, Samsung announced its plan to export a total of 500-thousand DMB phones to two Chinese media firms from April.

DMB is a domestically developed technology enabling users on the go to watch TV programs featuring high-quality audio and video.
