'Hwang's Patents Unrelated to Human Cloning'

The head of the country's patent office says patents applied for by professor Hwang Woo-suk in the nation are not related to the cloning of human embryonic stem cells.

Korean Intellectual Property Office Commissioner Chun Sang-woo said Tuesday in a parliamentary report that all six registered patents requested by Hwang are related to animal and somatic cell cloning.

Of 26 patents for which Hwang has applied, Chun said 19 have been processed and deliberations on the remaining seven will come later.
