Commercialized services for the mobile wireless technology WiBro are set to see their European debut in Italy next year.

Samsung Electronics and Telecom Italia announced the plan in a joint news conference in Turin Monday.

Samsung adopted a strategic agreement on the mobile technology with Italy late last year and is currently conducting trial operations of the service at the 2006 Winter Olympics underway in the northwestern Italian city.

Commercialized services for the cutting-edge technology are expected to be launched in South Korea this year, while Venezuela will see their commercialization in the second half of this year.

Locally developed by Samsung Electronics and the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, WiBro allows for wider and faster broadband Internet access through mobile phones and other portable devices at cheaper prices.
