Slugger Lee Seung-yeop of Japan's Yomiuri Giants declined Wednesday to visit a shrine in Miyazaki with his team.

Members of Japan's most storied baseball team arrived Tuesday in Miyazaki for spring training before visiting the Aoshima shrine.

Lee waited for his teammates at the hotel during the visit.

Japan's pro teams traditionally make such visits before beginning spring training.

The 29-year-old Lee signed with the Giants last month for a base salary of 160 million yen and a signing bonus of 50 million yen.
