A research team's new technology for designing and producing proteins has appeared in the latest edition of the international journal Science.

Kim Hak-sung (pictured right), a bioengineering professor at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in Daejeon, said Friday that his team's technology can produce "designer protein" with certain functions by removing unnecessary parts of a protein and inserting new elements.

With applications in industry and the development of new medicines and enzyme detergents, the technology is also expected to shed light on the evolutionary process of proteins.
