The National Intelligence Service will seek stronger security for the country's athletes in the Torino Winter Olympics next month.

The agency said Wednesday that with the dispatch of Italian forces to Iraq, Islamic terrorist groups including Al Qaeda could launch an attack during the event to gain support for troop removal from Iraq.

Seoul has asked Italian authorities to beef up security and distributed a guide on terrorism to South Korean athletes and officials.
