Half-Korean Star to Play in 1st Super Bowl

American football star Hines Ward, who is half Korean, will play in his first Super Bowl on February 5th.

The wide receiver on Sunday caught a touchdown pass in the Pittsburgh Steelers' 34-17 win over the Denver Broncos in the American Football Conference championship.

Pittsburgh will play the Super Bowl against the Seattle Seahawks in the Pontiac Silverdome near Detroit, Michigan.

Born in Seoul in 1976, Ward was born to an African-American serviceman and a Korean woman who divorced soon after they moved to the United States.

Joining the Steelers in 1998 after a stellar career at the University of Georgia, he has made the Pro Bowl, the league's all-star game, four times and led his team in catches for six straight seasons.

Ward says his success comes from the work ethic he learned from his mother, who raised him by working three to four jobs despite little English ability.
