The nation's largest port city of Busan is one of the top three candidates to host the 2009 International Olympic Committee Session and the 13th Olympic Congress.
The Olympic news Web site aroundtherings.com said Monday that IOC members confirmed that Busan, Copenhagen and Mexico City are atop the candidate list.
The IOC Session is expected to discuss the election of a new president to replace the outgoing Jacques Rogge, host selection of the 2016 Summer Olympics and a vote on official events.
The 2009 Olympic Congress, the first since the 1994 meeting in Paris, will likely draw some 75,000 visitors, including 2,600 official guests and members of the International Sports Federation and the National Olympic Committee, athletes, journalists and scholars.
The host city will be announced next month at the IOC General Assembly in Turin, Italy.
