The Science and Technology Ministry will delay its decision on whether to strip disgraced scientist Hwang Woo-suk of his "top scientist title" until after a final announcement by Seoul National University’s disciplinary committee in mid- or late February.

The ministry’s decision to postpone its decision is drawing attention since it was reportedly seeking to convene a meeting to revoke Hwang’s title when the SNU investigative panel disclosed the results of its probe last Wednesday.

A ministry official said it was logical to hold off on making the decision until the university decides on punitive measures against Hwang.
