'Soccer League Generated Nearly W400 Bln'

A sports marketing firm says the domestic soccer K-League had an economic-generating effect of almost 400 billion won.

SMS Korea said Tuesday that its study showed 2.87 million fans watched 240 regular-season and Korea Cup games, generating 391.5 billion won in revenue.

Admission, parking fees and concessions earned 65.4 billion won. Production, other income and high value-added earnings and import fees accounted for another 326.1 billion won.

The figure was based on a poll conducted on 4,160 fans that found a person attending a K-league game last season spent an average 22,759 won, mainly for admission.

A league source said this year's World Cup will likely raise attendance next season.

SMS also said the league had an advertising effect of 54.6 billion won for its sponsor Samsung Hauzen.
