Foundation Gives W200 Mln for Needy Kids

A scholarship foundation run by a former soccer star has donated 200 million won for children suffering from cancer and those from lower-income families.

The Community Chest of Korea on Friday said the Hong Myung-bo Foundation donated the money last month earned through a charity game sponsored by Puma played by former and present members of the national team.

Now an assistant to national coach Dick Advocaat, Hong played in four World Cups between 1990 and 2002, and has the most international appearances for South Korea with 135.

Retiring in 2004 with the American team Los Angeles Galaxy, the midfielder also played for the domestic K-League's Pohang Steelers and two pro squads in Japan.
