Former national soccer coach Guus Hiddink is expected to retire after his contract with Dutch league champion PSV Eindhoven expires next year.
PSV President Rob Westerhof on Thursday told reporters in the Netherlands that Hiddink will retire from coaching due to his advancing age.
Westerhof is known to have held extensive talks with the 60-year-old Hiddink, who is coaching the Australian national team part-time, before making the announcement.
Westerhof also denied a news report that Hiddink is considering taking over the German team Schalke 04, saying the coach has ruled out accepting any more offers.
Beginning his coaching career with PSV in 1986, Hiddink has coached the Spanish pro team Real Madrid, Real Betis and Valencia.
He is most famous, however, for taking South Korea to the 2002 World Cup semifinals, having done the same in the 1998 tournament with his native Netherlands.
