The government says its position on the fraud scandal of scientist Hwang Woo-suk will remain the same since he has admitted to fabricating his paper and has pledged to take responsibility.

Vice Science and Technology Minister Choi Seok-sik said Thursday that follow-up measures and decisions on Hwang will proceed as scheduled despite his denial of several probe results by the Seoul National University investigative panel.

Choi also ruled out government support for Hwang's projects later on.

In a news conference in the morning, Hwang offered a public apology for the stem cell scandal and blamed researchers at MizMedi Women's Hospital for deceiving him over the results of stem cell DNA tests.
