Seoul National University will offer a public apology after its investigative probe announced Tuesday that embattled scientist Hwang Woo-suk committed fraud in stem cell research.

To announce the school's position Wednesday, the university's president Chung Un-chan will apologize for failing to take preventive measures and pledge to punish those responsible.

The government is known to have provided Hwang with more than 60 million dollars in research funds, and a criminal probe will soon begin on the one-time national hero.
