Hospital to Conduct Own Probe on Scandal

The chairman of MizMedi Women's Hospital in Seoul says seven hospital staff will conduct a probe on the stem cell scandal of Hwang Woo-suk as requested by the U.S. journal Science.

Roh Sung-il on Tuesday said Science in an e-mail sent Saturday asked MizMedi to confirm seven papers including Hwang's 2004 and 2005 theses and another presented by the hospital to the journal Stem Cell.

He said the hospital will name a team of two stem cell experts and five outside figures this week for a month-long probe.

Roh said that he respects the final results of the investigative panel's probe announced in the morning and that he will follow the ensuing criminal investigation into the scandal.
