The U.S. journal Science has asked MizMedi Women's Hospital and Hanyang University to conduct their own investigations on the stem cell scandal.

In an e-mail Tuesday, the journal asked MizMedi Chairman Roh Sung-il for an independent probe to confirm the validity of Hwang's 2004 and 2005 papers and others published in the journals Science, Stem Cell, Biology of Reproduction and Molecules and Cells.

Science especially urged an inspection on papers by the hospital research team suspected of having fabricated photos and negligence in ova donations by the institutional review board of Hanyang's medical school.
