The thesis of disgraced scientist Hwang Woo-suk published last year in Science magazine was mainly written by his colleague Kang Sung-geun.

A member of the Seoul National University panel on Thursday quoted Kang as saying he wrote the Korean text of the thesis as head of Hwang's stem cell research team, adding American professor Gerald Schatten wrote the English version.

Saying Kang has no idea what Hwang contributed to the paper, the panel member said Kang will find it difficult to avoid responsibility since the paper is a fraud.

Meanwhile, the fabrication in Hwang's 2004 paper published in the British magazine Nature is believed not as serious as that of last year's.
