The Seoul National University panel investigating the stem cell scandal of Hwang Woo-suk says a separate committee will decide the punishment for Hwang and others involved.

In a Tuesday briefing, the panel said it cannot discuss disciplinary action on professors under probe over the authenticity of Hwang's papers published in the journal Science, adding its job is only to find out the involvement of the professors in writing the theses.

University president Jung Woon-chan will form a disciplinary committee based on the panel's final report next week.
