Terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting will begin service next year with mobile operator LG Telecom announcing plans to sell DMB-capable handsets.

An LG source on Friday said the company has agreed with six terrestrial DMB service providers to sell the handsets from next year given rising consumer demand and the government's efforts to boost the information technology industry.

DMB is a domestically developed technology enabling users to watch TV programs with high-quality audio and video on the go.

On December 1st, the country's six DMB providers launched the service for the first time in the world.
