An investigative panel will likely conclude early next week if disgraced scientist Hwang Woo-suk has the technology to produce embryonic stem cells tailor-made for patients.
A source at Seoul National University, which is in charge of the panel, said Saturday that the results of DNA fingerprinting on Hwang's stem cell lines will determine if he has the technology.
After a six-day probe, the panel on Friday said Hwang fabricated the results of his stem cell research carried in May by the London-based journal Science.
The panel said Hwang claimed to have eleven stem cell lines when he submitted data to Science on March 15th, but only had two.
Three domestic labs on Thursday were assigned to analyze DNA fingerprinting of nine of the eleven stem cell samples in storage and nine others being cultivated.
Also under analysis are 13 patient somatic samples, three teratoma samples and three cell samples from Snuppy, the world's first cloned dog.
