The Science and Technology Ministry will cut off research funding to disgraced scientist Hwang Woo-suk.

The ministry on Friday expressed regret over the investigative probe committee's interim finding that Hwang's stem cell thesis was fabricated.

The government, however, will continue to support stem cell and other bioengineering research for the sake of those hoping to conquer rare and incurable diseases.
