Disgraced scientist Hwang Woo-suk insists that his research team has embryonic stem cells tailor-made for patients and that he will soon prove it.

In a short news conference Friday afternoon, Hwang said he will resign as professor of veterinary medicine at Seoul National University to apologize for bringing shock and disappointment to the people.

He is known to have submitted his resignation letter to the dean of the university's School of Veterinary Medicine, Yang Il-suk.

A university official, however, said the resignation is not acceptable because the probe on Hwang is not finished.
