An investigative panel probing the validity of Hwang Woo-suk's stem cell research will request analysis of DNA fingerprints of stem cells that were used by Hwang’s research team.
The Seoul National University (SNU) panel is also planning to question a doctor at the National Institute of Scientific Investigation who analyzed DNA fingerprints of Hwang’s stem cells as well as three other co-authors of a stem cell thesis that U.S. journal Science published this year.
Earlier on Wednesday, the panel questioned producer of the MBC-TV program “PD Notebook” Han Hak-soo as well as MizMedi Hospital CEO Roh Sung-il and Professor Moon Shin-yong of SNU’s College of Medicine.
Roh was likely quizzed on how stem cells stored at the hospital were delivered to Hwang and whether he actually supplied Hwang with one-thousand-plus eggs for research as he had claimed.
Moon, meanwhile, is likely to have been asked to explain how apparent flaws were made in a thesis published this summer and whether such flaws existed in another thesis presented in 2004.
The panel will unveil the interim results of its probe on Friday.
