The Korea Aerospace Research Institute said the satellite since its launch in 1999 has orbited the earth 32,085 times and taken 347,000 photos.

Arirang I has also monitored major natural disasters on the Korean Peninsula such as forest fires, typhoons and yellow sand storms originating from China.
