New Fighter Jet Nicknamed 'Slam Eagle'

The Air Force has chosen "Slam Eagle" as the nickname for the nation's next-generation fighter jet F-15K.

The Air Force on Monday held a naming ceremony at an air base in Daegu, South Gyeongsang Province with Defense Minister Yoon Kwang-ung and the chairman of the parliamentary committee on national defense Yoo Jay-kun attending.

"Slam" refers to a perfect victory and "slam eagle" to absolute power in air supremacy for the peace and security of the Korean Peninsula.

The fighters are set for deployment from 2007 and the government will buy 40 of them by 2008.
